Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to the pursuit of a free and democratic South Africa for all that lived in it. He succeeded. Here is a brief mock CV of his accomplishments generated using info from here, here, here and here. His life is documented in his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela. He exuded grace and empathy even for his oppressors. He retired from public life as gracefully as he served and exited his first and only term in the presidency of South Africa, saying “My appeal therefore is: Don’t call me, I will call you.”

Writing
Thankfully we have an autobiography (and a few other works) by which to remember Madiba. While the world feels a little emptier without him, the world is richer for having had Rolihlahla (colloquially known as “troublemaker”) in it. He truly caused and weathered many storms, and we South Africans’ are glad he did.
